Exeter Carers Focus has pioneered an independent respite scheme, in conjunction with Devon County Council, that purchases one full-time bed at Highlands for the use of those sufferers from dementia living at home with carers who themselves are in need of a break for whatever reason.
 
This new facility is available to service users living within the Exeter City Council area and is up to four weeks per year in total – any of which can be pre-booked. It is part-funded by Social Services and the amount payable for this service is dependent on means but will on no account exceed £433 per week.
